Two RSIEC Commissioners Resign In Rivers State

The Commissioner in charge of budget/research and statistics in the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission,RSIEC, Dr.Lazbery Nyebuchi Nnah and Commissioner in Charge of Political parties/Monitoring,Professor Simeon Emenike Weli have reportedly resigned their positions.
In a separate statement signed by Dr Nnah and Professor Weli, dated 7th March 2025 and addressed to the Chairman of RSIEC, they cited the Supreme Court Judgement of 28th February 2025, which nullified the Local Government Areas election held on 5th October 2025, and the political situation in the state as reasons for their resignation.
They both thanked the Commission for allowing them to serve.
Recall that on Wednesday,5th March, 2025, the Rivers State House of Assembly under the speakership of Martins Amawhule in a letter to the Chairman of RSIEC, Justice Adolphus Enebeli, (rtd) mandated him and his Commissioners to appear before the floor of the house within forty-eight hours.
However, the Rivers State House of Assembly, in its resumed sitting on Friday, March 7th,2025, extended the deadline for the RSIEC Chairman and his Commissioners to appear to Monday, March 10th, 2025.
The Commissioner in charge of Civic Education and Public Affairs, Tobins Tamunotonye, was yet to respond to inquiry by our reporter on the reported resignation of the two Commissioners.
