A trending video on Facebook has sparked widespread reactions, prompting the management of the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH) to respond and clarify the situation surrounding a building shown in the footage.
The video, which depicts a deroofed apartment allegedly under the hospital’s authority, was said to have been posted by one Mrs. Fortune Tenedem, who claimed the apartment had been allocated to her as a staff member of the hospital.
However, investigations conducted by the hospital management have refuted her claims. According to Elabha Meni, Head of Corporate Affairs and Public Relations at UPTH, Mrs. Tenedem is not a recognised staff member of the institution, and her occupation of the building had been unauthorised.
Meni stated that the hospital had issued multiple notices to Mrs. Tenedem requesting that she vacate the premises. She further alleged that the occupant had housed individuals suspected to be involved in criminal activities, posing a risk to the hospital environment. Before leaving the building, Mrs. Tenedem reportedly deroofed and vandalised the property. The matter has since been reported to the police for further investigation.
The hospital urged the general public to disregard the misleading video and its claims. Meni reassured that UPTH remains committed to the welfare of its legitimate and recognised staff members and is taking appropriate steps to maintain order and safety within its premises.
