The Akwa Ibom State Police Command says it has secured 23 convictions for various crimes between January and July 2025.
This remarkable feat is a testament to the Command’s enhanced efforts in crime prevention, investigation, and prosecution under the leadership of Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare.
The convictions, which range from two weeks to three years imprisonment, were for offenses including stealing, assault, burglary, felony, and escape from lawful custody.
This was contained in a statement by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John in Uyo on Tuesday Wednesday.
According to the Statement, all legal proceedings adhered to due process, with arrests, investigations, and trials conducted in line with constitutional provisions and best practices.
It noted that residents in major towns such as Uyo, Ikot Ekpene, Oron, and Eket have reported a notable decline in crimes like burglary, theft, and violence, reflecting the positive impact of the Command’s approach.
“The statement said, “The positive results of the Command’s approach are being felt across major towns including Uyo, Ikot Ekpene, Oron, and Eket, where residents have reported a significant decline in burglary, theft, and violent crimes. Public sentiment reflects a growing sense of security and confidence in the Police Force.
“Since assuming office in late 2024, CP Baba Mohammed Azare has introduced several reforms, including: enhanced community policing, rapid response mechanism, professional retraining of Officers and direct supervision of field operations.
“CP Azare commended the Officers and men of the Command for their hard work and dedication to duty, promising that all outstanding performances will be adequately rewarded. He also appreciated the efforts and support of the judiciary and the Ministry of Justice.
“The Command assures the public of its commitment to sustaining progress through intelligence-driven policing, increased patrols, and public enlightenment campaigns.
“With these 23 convictions marking the Command’s achievements in the first half of 2025, the Akwa Ibom Police Command has demonstrated a clear capacity to translate arrests into real justice, laying the groundwork for long-term peace and deeper community trust,” it concluded.
