Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Zulum, has condemned the recent suicide attack carried out by suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists in Konduga Local Government Area of the state.
The attack, which occurred on Friday around 10:00 p.m., targeted a night fish market, resulting in the death of 12 people and injuries to 18 others.
In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Dauda Iliya, Governor Zulum expressed deep sorrow over the incident, describing it as a heinous act and an assault on humanity. “The barbaric acts committed by these terrorists are not only heinous but an assault on our shared humanity,” he said.
He described the attack as a cowardly attempt to instil fear and undermine the resilience of the people. “This is a cowardly and barbaric attempt to instil fear in the people and undermine our collective resilience. The people of Borno are resilient, and we refuse to be cowed by terrorists,” he stated.
Zulum urged residents to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activity to security agencies, stressing that community cooperation is crucial in the ongoing fight against insurgency.
He extended his condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured. “To the families who have lost loved ones, I extend my deepest sympathies and pray to Allah for the quick recovery of those who are injured,” he said.
The governor also reassured citizens that the government is working closely with security agencies to enhance public safety and prevent future attacks.
