Senator Kaka Shehu Lawan, who represents Borno Central, launched the second phase of the empowerment program, which was officially launched by Borno State Governor Professor Babagana Zulum.
The program is expected to help 3,092 people in the senatorial district’s eight local government districts.
A total of 2,592 beneficiaries will receive various empowerment items such as tricycles (Keke Napep), deep freezers, sewing and grinding machines, fertilizer, rice harvesters, solar-powered and mechanical water pumps, Hijet mini trucks, and other agricultural equipment. The remaining 500 recipients, however, will each get ₦100,000 in cash assistance.
During Tuesday’s flag-off ceremony at Government House Maiduguri, Zulum praised Senator Lawan for his continuous efforts to raise the standard of living for his constituents as well as for his larger contribution to Borno State’s development.
“This is not the first time Senator Kaka Shehu Lawan is distributing empowerment items to his constituents. His dedication to the development of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Borno State need not be overemphasized; he has done very well,” Zulum remarked.
Governor Zulum also praised Senator Lawan’s important legislative efforts, pointing out that in his two years in office, the senator has sponsored important bills, such as those that would establish the Federal Medical Center in Borno State and the Federal University of Entrepreneurship and Agriculture in Alabama. “I want to commend him not only for his grassroots interventions but also for his outstanding performance in the Senate. These contributions are unprecedented in the history of our state,” Governor Zulum added, urging the Senator to continue with his laudable efforts, assuring him of the continued support of the government and people of Borno State.
According to Senator Kaka Shehu Lawan’s remarks, every recipient of the empowerment items will also get an extra ₦20,000 in financial assistance. He also revealed that 450 school desks would be donated and given to public schools in the senatorial district.
Senator Lawan stated :”I sincerely appreciate the leadership of Governor Zulum in the state. This is the second phase of my empowerment initiative, and I encourage all beneficiaries to make productive use of these items. I assure you this initiative will be sustained.”
Deputy National Chairman (North) Hon. Ali Bukar Dalori, State APC Chairman Hon. Bello Ayuba, and Member representing Maiduguri Metropolitan Federal Constituency Hon. Abdulkadir Rahis also gave goodwill remarks at the event. They all praised Senator Lawan’s dedication to providing his constituents with the benefits of democracy.
They claim that Governor Zulum’s ongoing post-conflict recovery and reconstruction efforts throughout the state will be greatly aided by the empowerment program.
The event was graced by the Deputy Governor, Hon. Umar Usman Kadafur; members of the State House of Assembly; the Secretary to the State Government; Head of Service; Acting Chief of Staff; Commissioners; Local Government Chairmen; Special Advisers; APC stalwarts; and other key stakeholders.
