Suspected Lakurawa bandits have launched a deadly attack on Baidi and Sabiyo villages in Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State, killing at least six villagers and injuring one.
Local sources reported that the incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon when the armed bandits, wielding sophisticated weapons, attacked Mrs. Medina Isah, who was traveling on foot, along with several motorcycle riders in Baidi village, leaving one person wounded.
The attackers then moved to Sabiyo village, where they killed six farmers working on their farmlands. One of the victims, Aminu Sama’ila, sustained gunshot wounds to the neck and chest. He was rescued by a joint patrol team and taken to a nearby hospital before being referred to the Specialist Hospital in Sokoto for further treatment.
At the time of filing this report, a farmer identified as Usman Sama’ila was still missing, and search operations were ongoing. The assailants reportedly opened fire on residents after the initial attack, killing four people on the spot.
Security sources confirmed that troops from Operation Fansan Yanma, alongside the Divisional Police Officer of Gidan-Madi, police tactical units, and local vigilante groups, were conducting search operations along bush paths and border routes between Nigeria and the Niger Republic in pursuit of the fleeing attackers.
The assault is one in a series of violent incidents linked to Lakurawa bandits, who have increasingly targeted farming communities during the planting season, heightening concerns over food insecurity and displacement in border regions.
