Professor Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development, has been inaugurated as the new National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC). The swearing-in ceremony took place precisely at 2:52 PM on Thursday.
Yilwatda’s appointment was announced during the 14th meeting of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) held at the Presidential Villa’s Banquet Hall in Abuja. His emergence follows the resignation of former chairman Abdullahi Ganduje last month, citing health reasons.
The NEC ratified Yilwatda’s appointment through a consensus-driven process aimed at uniting the party ahead of critical upcoming elections, including off-cycle governorship races in Kogi, Edo, and Ondo states. Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma nominated him, a motion seconded by House of Representatives Speaker Tajudeen Abbas.
A former gubernatorial hopeful in Plateau State, Yilwatda is recognized within party circles for his loyalty, technocratic expertise, and grassroots appeal—traits that contributed to his selection as a consensus candidate.
The NEC meeting was presided over by President Bola Tinubu and attended by prominent figures including Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, APC governors, former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, and members of the National Working Committee (NWC).
