Rape Victim Accuse IPO of False Charges on Suspect

Prince Woke, Rivers

A man who gave his name as Daniel (Surnamewithweld) who said he was kidnapped and raped by eight men in Oyigbo axis of Rivers on April 27th, 2024, has written to Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egberokun, Commissioner of Police, Rivers State accusing two officers, Mr Martins and Mr. Udom of Anti-Kidnapping unit of the Rivers Police Command of arraigning the prime suspect in the case for assault instead of rape and kidnapping charges despite medical and other glaring evidence.

Mr Daniel, a fashion designer, said that on a fateful day, he was lured to Oyigbo by the prime suspect, Ikechukwu, on the pretense of giving him (Daniel) a job.

He stated that when he arrived at Oyigbo, the prime suspect, Ikechukwu, under the guise of taking him (Daniel) to the person he would make the Job quotation for, took him to a room where he met seven other men and two ladies.

Mr Daniel revealed that he was raped severally by Ikechukwu and the other seven males who also raped the two female kidnapped victims.

I was in their custody for almost two days. The eight men raped me. They were also putting their manhood in my mouth until they ejaculate. They also raped the two ladies.

“I did all the tracking until the Prime suspect was arrested by Elekahia Police Division in the area. The detained suspect was then transferred to the anti-kidnapping unit, according to the directives of the Commissioner of Police in Rivers State.

“I provided the account details of the ransom the suspects collected from me and my family. They collected over one million naira from my friends and family.

“I was surprised that the Investigating Police Officer in the Anti-kidnapping unit arraigned the suspect Ikechukwu in court on the lesser charge of assault instead of rape, kidnap, and blackmail even without informing me (complainant).

“It was my lawyer who tracked the case and found out what the IPO has done,” Daniel said.

He disclosed that he had recently been trailed by unknown persons while demanding Justice.

Meanwhile, a petition cited by our reporter, written by Barrister Tom Charles Woke, Esq of Lawyers Watch for Justice International Initiative on behalf of the victim, was sent to the Inspector General of Police and copied to the Commissioner of Police and Director of State Security Service in Rivers State. The petition demanded the re-arrest, proper investigation, and re-arraignment of the prime suspect and other gang members.

The Rivers Police Command has yet to respond to our reporter’s enquiry on the victim’s allegations.
