The Nigerian Army’s 6 Division has kicked off the Division Inter-Brigade Corporal and Below Competition 2025 in Akwa Ibom.
The 5-day event aims at enhancing combat proficiency, leadership skills, and organizational ability among non-commissioned officers.
The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 6 Division Nigerian Army and Land Component Commander Joint Task Force South South Operation DELTA SAFE, Major General Eric Emekah disclosed this on Monday at 6 Battalion Parade Ground, Wellington Bassey Barracks, Ibagwa, Monday, 7 April 2025.
This was contained in a statement by the Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations 2 Brigade, Adebowale Adejimi made available to Newsnowng in Uyo on Tuesday.
According to the statement, the GOC represented by the Commander 2 Brigade, Brigadier General Alexander Tawasimi explained that the training exercise will enhance the troops to be mentally and physically fit for operations.
The statement reads: “The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 6 Division Nigerian Army and Land Component Commander Joint Task Force South South Operation DELTA SAFE, Major General Eric Emekah, officially declared the Division Inter-Brigade Corporal, and Below Competition 2025 opened at 6 Battalion Parade Ground, Wellington Bassey Barracks, Ibagwa, Monday, 7 April 2025.
“Speaking through the Commander 2 Brigade Nigerian Army and Commander Sector 4 Joint Task Force South South Operation DELTA SAFE Brigadier General Alexander Tawasimi, the GOC Major General Emekah stated that the training activity is aimed at achieving the following: improving the combat proficiency of Non-commissioned Officers of the rank of corporals and below, enhance their leadership skills, determine their organizational ability and to also put to test their ability to endure under difficult circumstances while maintaining esprit-de-corps among the participating troops.
“He emphasised that the importance of such training exercises troops ‘for physical and mental fitness cannot be overemphasized.
“He reiterated that the operational successes the Army has recorded so far in Operation DELTA SAFE could not have been possible if troops were not both mentally and physically fit.
“Earlier in his welcome address, the Chief of Staff Headquarters 2 Brigade Colonel Kunle Atilola, thanked the SGOH for allowing 2 Brigade to host the all-important event.
“He charged participating troops to take the competition very seriously, as every effort they put in would contribute to the collective strength of the armed forces.
“The 6 Division Inter Brigade Corporal and Below Competition will have participating formations compete in: Drill, Weapon Handling and Shooting, 5km Combat Race, Map Reading, Combat Swimming, and Physical Fitness/Obstacle Crossing.
“The 5-day competition which commenced on Monday 7 April is expected to end on Friday 11 April with participating troops drawn from 2 Brigade Uyo, 16 Brigade Bayelsa, 63 Brigade Delta, and 6 Division Garrison Port Harcourt,” was added.
