Members of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have taken into custody seven individuals for allegedly running illegal oil dumps in the Jahi/Katampe area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
On Thursday, NSCDC spokesman Afolabi Babawale gave in a statement saying, “Acting on the orders of the Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi mni OFR, we continue our strong efforts against oil thieves across the country. The CG Special Intelligence Squad (CG SIS) has arrested seven suspects connected to operating seven illegal oil dumps in Jahi/Katampe, FCT, Abuja.”
Babawale also mentioned that the operation that led to the arrests was a well-planned raid based on reliable information about suspected vandals engaged in the illegal refining of petroleum products.
He stated, “After receiving the intelligence, my team and I acted quickly and discovered five out of the seven illegal oil dumps that were targeted.”
The individuals arrested during the operation include: Akande Olusola (48), Anas Usman (33), Jonathan Onekutu (45), Uchenna Kelechi (44), Chukwuma Solomon (37), Monday Israel (34), and Bello (33).
The CG SIS Boss, Commandant Dandaura, suggested that the NSCDC will go to a proper court with help from its Legal Department. They will carefully follow all the steps in the investigation and prosecution to discourage others from doing wrong.
