Two deadly suspected kidnappers operating in Delta, Rivers, Imo and Enugu states in southern Nigeria have been arrested in Port Harcourt by operatives of the Delta State Police Command.
Spokesperson for the Delta Police Command, SP Bright Edafe, said the suspects are believed to be behind a series of abductions within some southern states.
SP Edafe said the command arrested the suspects last Friday during an Operation led by the CP – Special Assignment Team (CP – SAT) following credible intelligence.
“The police team tracked the suspects to the Elelenwo area of Obio/Akpor Local Government, Rivers State, where they apprehended a 21-year-old member of the gang.
“Upon interrogation, on May 17, 2025, at about 13:20hrs, he led operatives to the arrest of their gang leader and coordinator Bello Amodu (40) of Tangaza LGA, Sokoto State, but a resident of Elelenwo area, Port Harcourt, Rivers state, who is coordinating the various syndicates within the South-South and South-East region.
“Further investigation led to the arrest of Umar Mohammed Beto (38), of Tsamiya village, Bagudu LGA, Kebbi State, a resident of the Oil Mill Area, Port Harcourt area of Rivers State, who is said to be the one heading the Enugu axis.
“Upon further interrogation, at about 06:35hrs of the same date, they led operatives to a bush along Ughelli – Ozoro Road where one AK-47 Rifle loaded with 23 rounds of live ammunition and a pump action with seven rounds of live cartridges were recovered, SP Edafe said.
SP Edafe stated that further investigations led police to the Oil Mill area also in Obio/Akpor Local Government, where a 38-year-old member was arrested, who is believed to have directed the syndicate’s criminal activities in the Enugu state axis.
He disclosed that the suspects later took the police to a hideout in the bush along the Ughelli–Ozoro Road, where officers recovered a cache of weapons.
The items included one AK-47 rifle loaded with 23 rounds of live ammunition and a pump-action shotgun with seven live cartridges.
