The Police Command in Akwa Ibom has arrested two suspected vandals and recovered stolen items in Uyo metropolis.
This was disclosed in a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, in Uyo on Monday.
According to the statement, the suspects were apprehended on June 29 along Ndiya Street off Aka Road, Uyo. John said the arrest followed credible intelligence received about an act of vandalism taking place at the location.
“On Sunday, June 29, 2025, at about 11:46 a.m., based on credible information at the Command’s disposal regarding an ongoing act of vandalism along Ndiya Street, operatives of the Command swiftly mobilised to the scene. On sighting the police, the suspects took to their heels, but one was apprehended,” the statement read.
Further investigations led to the arrest of a second suspect at about 3:40 p.m. on the same day at Ebiare Afiat Lane, also off Aka Road.
During interrogation, the suspects reportedly led police to another accomplice, now at large, believed to be a receiver of the stolen items. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspect.
A search of the area resulted in the recovery of several stolen items including two large oxygen gas cylinders, one SUMEC Fireman 3000 generator, one Fireman 1800 generator, a 12.5kg gas cylinder, a complete mechanic toolbox, two wheelbarrows, a 4kg gas cylinder, an aluminium car wheel, a metal Coca-Cola stand, a tile cutter, and a solar light panel, among others.
John confirmed that the arrested suspects would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
She urged residents to remain vigilant and continue to support the police by providing timely and useful information to help combat crime in the state.
