The Rivers State Police Command on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, announced the arrest of two suspects in connection with a violent attack on Christian Benjamin Ediegene, Chairman of the Community Development Committee (CDC) of Okana in Abua Central, Abua/Odual Local Government Area.
Spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, Superintendent of Police Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the development in response to an enquiry. She disclosed that the suspects, whose identities have not yet been made public, were initially apprehended by officers of the Ayama Police Division in Abua Central and subsequently transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) in Port Harcourt for further investigation.
Narrating his ordeal, Benjamin Ediegene recounted that he was ambushed by a group of young men while on his way to the farm at around 7 a.m. on June 29. “They attacked me with machetes on my head, shoulder, and hand,” he said. “After they left, I forced myself to the main road. The incident happened very close to it. My community members came and took me to the police station in Abua Central. For now, I am demanding justice. I heard the police have arrested some of them. I was unconscious, but now I am recovering. At least I can talk a little.”
The motive behind the attack remains unclear as investigations continue.
