President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed the Pro-Chancellor, Governing Council members and principal officers of the Federal University of Environment and Technology, Koroma/Saakpenwa, in Tai Local Government Area of Rivers State.
A statement from the office of the Special Adviser, Information And Strategy, to the President, Bayo Ononuga stated that Professor Don Baridam, has been appointed the as the pioneer Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of the university while the former Rivers State Commissioner for Education under former Governor Nyesom Wike, Professor Chinedu Mmom, will serve as the pioneer Vice-Chancellor of the university.
Baridam, a Professor of Management with specialisation in Organisational Behaviour, is a former Vice Chancellor of the University of Port Harcourt, while Mmom is a serving professor in the Department of Geography and Environmental Management at the same University of Port Harcourt.
The newly constituted Governing Council which comprises of diverse team from different regions of the country are; Mr. Emmanuel Onoja (North Central), Mr. Hamid Adekunle (South West), Prof. Chima Oji (South East) and Alhaji Abdullahi Magaji Lamda (North West).
President Tinubu also appointed a team of professionals into other key positions at the university namely
Dr. Mpigi Monday Douglas as the Registrar, Zoryii Josco Nwaimanie as the Bursar, while Dr. Saghanen Ntogo will be the Chief Librarian of the new institution.
The appointment of council members and principals followed President Tinubu’s directive that all newly created universities and higher institutions must begin operations in September this year.
