HYPREP Sets to Commission More Projects

The Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project (HYPREP)has disclosed plans to commission two more water projects in Ogoni, Rivers State, in February 2025.
According to HYPREP, the development is part of its ongoing efforts to provide potable water to oil-impacted communities in the area.
HYPREP Project Coordinator, Professor Nenibarini Zabbey, who spoke during his visit to some project sites under the agency, said the two water schemes are located in Beeri in Khana and Bunu in Tai Local Government Areas, respectively.
Prof. Zabbey said the commissioning of these schemes will bring the total number of water projects completed by HYPREP to 16, adding that they all provide clean drinking water to thousands of people in Ogoni.
The PC expressed satisfaction with the progress made so far, attributing it to the determination and commitment of community workers.
He further emphasised that HYPREP’s mandate is to provide potable water to impacted communities in Ogoni, stressing that completing the two water schemes is a significant step towards achieving this goal.
He asserted that HYPREP’s projects, which include public health interventions, remediation, and livelihood initiatives, will significantly improve the quality of life for the Ogoni people.
During the visit, the PC also inspected the shoreline remediation site at K-Dere in Gokana LGA, expressing satisfaction with the contractors’ work.
