No Time Limit For Stay Of Police Officers In Any Jurisdiction~Rivers CP

Prince Woke, Port Harcourt

The Rivers State Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, has disclosed that there is no time limit for Police officers’ stays in a particular jurisdiction. CP Adepoju made the disclosure on Thursday, January 30th,2025, during Citizens Engagement On Police Reform In Nigeria-South South.

CP Adepoju, responding to a suggestion made by a participant in the programme that Police officers who have stayed over five years in a Police Division should be redeployed, asserted that an officer who has stayed long in a jurisdiction is an advantage to the area as the officer can swiftly respond to distress calls since he or she has good knowledge of the terrain.

The Rivers Police Boss, however, disclosed that if there are reports that an officer is fraternizing with criminal elements in the jurisdiction as a result of a long stay, the report is investigated. If the report turns out to be accurate, the officer will be redeployed and dealt with under the law.

CP Adepoju also stated that the Rivers State Police’s response time to distress calls is one of the best in Nigeria.

“We have personnel in tactical teams who move around assisting our DPOs. I listen to distress calls and monitor the way our men respond to distress calls,” CP Adepoju said.
