Edo State Head of Service Honored with Prestigious Leadership Award

The Head of Service (HOS) of Edo State, Dr. Anthony Okungbowa, has been recognized with a prestigious leadership award by the Student Union Government (SUG) of the University of Benin (UNIBEN). The award was presented to Dr. Okungbowa in recognition of his exemplary leadership and significant contributions to the transformation of the state’s civil and public service.

The award was presented during a courtesy visit to Dr. Okungbowa’s office in Benin City, led by the Vice President of the Student Union Body, Comrade Omotuemen Osalumenese Favour.

In his appreciation, Dr. Okungbowa encouraged the students to embrace leadership in their current roles, stressing that they are already leaders today and that change should begin now. “Those of you who will be leaders of the future are already leaders today. If you do not begin to bring in the changes now, you cannot implement them in the larger society,” he advised.

Dr. Okungbowa also encouraged students to remain hopeful about the future of Nigeria, particularly as they approach the end of their undergraduate studies. He urged them to avoid despair or fear of the unknown and instead focus on nation-building and personal development.

Emphasizing the need for students to enhance their skills, the HOS recommended that they take advantage of digital learning platforms and pursue certifications in areas such as e-governance and cybersecurity to remain competitive in the rapidly evolving public service sector.

He also highlighted the importance of integrity and dedication in their endeavors, reminding the students that a functional system benefits everyone and that it is their responsibility to contribute to its success.

In his remarks, Comrade Osalumenese expressed gratitude to Dr. Okungbowa for his warm reception and motivational message. He noted that the award was a testament to the HOS’s dynamic leadership and tireless efforts in driving positive reforms within Edo State’s civil service.
