Governor of Rivers State, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has commended the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), the Trade Union Congress (TUC), and their affiliate unions in the state for embracing dialogue over confrontation in resolving labour disputes. He noted that this mature approach to unionism has significantly contributed to sustained industrial harmony in Rivers State.
In his May Day 2026 message to workers, Governor Fubara attributed the peaceful work environment across the state to the responsible leadership of organised labour. He encouraged them to continue prioritising dialogue to ensure progressive industrial relations.
The governor also expressed appreciation to civil servants for their role in the state’s development, assuring them that his administration remains committed to their welfare and wellbeing. He highlighted the ongoing rehabilitation of the State Secretariat Complex, noting that its completion will enhance the work environment and boost efficiency and productivity.
Reflecting on the past 35 months, Fubara praised workers for maintaining stability and unity despite political challenges. He assured them that their dedication and sacrifices would not go unrewarded.
He remarked that even in the face of political uncertainty, workers remained steadfast in their duties, ensuring that schools and hospitals continued to function. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to prompt salary payments and the clearing of pensions, stressing that no retired worker would be neglected.
The governor paid tribute to workers across various sectors, including teachers, healthcare professionals, civil servants, engineers, sanitation workers, farmers, and artisans, acknowledging their vital contributions to the state’s growth and daily functioning.
He urged workers to remain committed and diligent, emphasising that their efforts continue to shape the state’s progress and improve the lives of its people.
Fubara also recognised the economic pressures faced by workers, including the rising cost of living and transportation. Despite these challenges, he noted that workers have remained resilient due to their belief in the future of Rivers State, assuring them that his administration will uphold their trust.
